Chapter 8 - The Return to the Estate

The snowstorm had cleared by evening, leaving the sprawling grounds of the Rossi estate in the Hudson Valley blanketed in a pristine, glittering layer of white.

Inside the grand foyer, the massive crystal chandelier cast a warm, golden glow over the polished marble floors.

When the black Maybach pulled up to the front portico, the heavy oak doors swung open. Julian stood on the threshold, his heart pounding in his chest—a sensation he hadn't felt since the day he first proposed to Elena years ago.

The car door opened, and Marcus gently helped Elena out.

She wore a soft, cream-colored cashmere coat, her cheeks flushed with warmth, her dark hair cascading in soft waves over her shoulders. She looked tired, but the haunted, terrified look in her eyes had been replaced by a profound, radiant peace.

Julian walked down the stone steps, stopping right in front of her.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The wind whispered through the snow-laden pines, and the distant lights of the estate twinkled against the winter night.

“Welcome home, Elena,” Julian whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

Elena looked up into his dark eyes, seeing all the remorse, love, and fierce protectiveness burning within them. She reached out, her hand resting gently against his cheek.

“I missed you so much, Julian,” she choked out, a tear slipping down her smile.

Julian wrapped his arms around her, pulling her against his chest with infinite care, burying his face in her hair as if he could somehow absorb every ounce of pain she had endured over the past eight months. He placed a gentle, trembling hand over her rounded belly, feeling the faint, miraculous kick of his unborn child.

“I am so sorry,” Julian murmured against her temple, his voice cracking. “I let a snake into our house. I failed to protect you. I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you and this little one.”

“You found me,” Elena whispered, pulling back just enough to look into his eyes. “That’s all that matters now.”

Marcus and the security detail discreetly stepped back into the shadows, leaving the couple alone in the quiet sanctuary of their restored home.

The nightmare was finally, truly over.
