Chapter 5 - The Descent Into the Lion’s Den

The forty-story glass monolith of Rossi Global Headquarters loomed over Manhattan like a towering crystal blade piercing the gray winter sky.
When Julian Rossi’s black Maybach screeched to a halt at the main entrance, the doorman didn't even wait for the vehicle to settle before scrambling to open the door. Julian stepped out, his tailored charcoal overcoat billowing slightly in the bitter wind. His face was a mask of cold, unyielding granite. Behind him stepped four elite bodyguards, their dark suits concealing tactical gear.
The lobby receptionists froze as Julian strode past the security gates without flashing his badge.
“Mr. Rossi! Sir, you can’t go up—Mr. Arthur is currently presiding over the board meeting on the thirty-fifth floor—!” the head receptionist stammered, scrambling away from her desk.
Julian didn't break stride. He punched the private executive elevator button, his jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle ticked in his cheek.
Inside the elevator, the digital display climbed rapidly: 10, 20, 30, 35.
With every floor that passed, the icy rage in Julian’s veins burned hotter. Arthur had lived under his roof, eaten at his table, called him brother—all while stabbing him in the back, stealing his fortune, kidnapping his wife, and threatening his unborn child.
Ding.
The elevator doors slid open directly onto the executive boardroom floor.
The thirty-fifth floor was a masterpiece of modern architecture—floor-to-ceiling glass walls, rare marble flooring, and a long mahogany conference table where twelve senior board members sat in hushed, nervous silence.
At the head of the table stood Arthur Rossi.
He was dressed in an impeccably tailored navy suit, his silver-streaked hair neatly styled, a smug, triumphant smile plastered across his face as he gestured to a digital presentation detailing the hostile takeover of the European division.
“—and as you can see, gentlemen, with Julian currently... indisposed by personal distractions, consolidating our overseas assets under my direct supervision is the only logical path forward,” Arthur was saying smoothly.
The double doors at the end of the boardroom suddenly blew open with a deafening crash.
The heavy mahogany doors slammed against the glass walls, shattering the tranquil silence of the meeting in a single second.

Every head at the table whipped around.
Arthur’s smug smile vanished instantly, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror as Julian Rossi stepped into the room.
