Chapter 6 - Camila’s True Colors

Before Arthur could stammer out a greeting, another figure stepped out from the shadows of the hallway behind Julian.
It was Camila.
She walked into the boardroom with an air of arrogant entitlement, her designer handbag clutched tightly in her hand, her expression smug. She had wasted no time switching sides the moment she realized Julian’s empire was up for grabs.
“Julian, darling, thank goodness you’re here,” Camila purred, sashaying toward him as if nothing had happened in the hotel lobby earlier that morning. “Arthur called me an hour ago and explained everything. You’ve been under so much stress over that unstable ex-wife of yours. Arthur is only trying to save the company from your erratic judgment.”
Julian stopped in his tracks, turning his cold, dead gaze onto Camila.
“You were with him,” Julian stated, not asking a question.
Camila blinked, momentarily taken aback by his tone. “What? Well... Arthur and I have been in touch, yes. He showed me how financially vulnerable you’ve become while chasing ghosts. Julian, be rational. Sign the restructuring papers with Arthur, and let’s fly to Milan. We can forget all about this wretched maid.”
Arthur quickly recovered his composure, stepping out from behind the podium with a calculated, patronizing smirk.
“She’s right, cousin,” Arthur said smoothly, adjusting his cuffs. “You’ve lost your edge. A man blinded by a runaway peasant girl has no business running a multi-billion-dollar global enterprise. Hand over the CEO seal, check yourself into a sanitarium for exhaustion, and I’ll make sure you get a generous monthly allowance.”
The board members murmured nervously among themselves, glancing back and forth between the two cousins, unsure of where loyalties lay.
Julian didn't yell. He didn't rush forward to throw a punch.
Instead, he let out a slow, chilling laugh.
“Arthur,” Julian said softly, walking toward the head of the table. “You always were an ambitious fool. You think because I was traveling, I didn't notice the bleeding accounts? You think because I was searching for my wife, I wasn't tracking your offshore wire transfers?”
Arthur’s smile falter for a microsecond. “You’re bluffing. You have no proof.”
Julian pulled a sleek, encrypted flash drive from his coat pocket and tossed it onto the mahogany table. It slid across the polished wood and came to a stop right in front of Arthur’s coffee cup.
“That drive contains every forged signature, every shell company in the Cayman Islands, and every penny you embezzled from the European resort accounts over the last three years,” Julian said, his voice ringing crystal clear across the silent boardroom. “And thanks to my wife, it also contains the audio recordings of you threatening her life in the underground garage.”
Arthur’s face turned the color of chalk. He stared at the flash drive as if it were a venomous snake.
“That’s... that’s a forgery!” Arthur shouted, his voice cracking with panic. “He’s delusional! Security! Escort him out of the building!”
None of the security guards stationed outside the doors moved an inch. They knew who truly owned Rossi Global.
Camila realized the tide had turned in a heartbeat. Her face drained of color as she stepped backward toward the door. “Julian, wait, I didn't know—!”
“Shut your mouth and get out of my sight,” Julian hissed without even looking at her. “If you are within five miles of Manhattan by sundown, I will ruin you so thoroughly you won't even be able to afford a bus ticket.”

Sobbing with humiliation, Camila turned and fled down the hallway, her designer heels clicking frantically against the marble floor.
Arthur was left completely alone at the head of the table, cornered by his own greed.
