Chapter 3 - The Manager’s Confession

The executive office on the penthouse level of the Grand Alcazar smelled of old leather, expensive scotch, and raw, unfiltered terror.
Victor Vance sat behind his mahogany desk, trembling so violently that the crystal tumbler of whiskey in his hand sloshed onto his expensive cuffs. Across from him, Julian Rossi sat perched on the edge of a leather sofa, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, his dark eyes locked onto the manager like a apex predator studying a trapped rabbit.
“You have three seconds to start talking, Victor,” Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “And if your first word isn't the name of the person who brought my wife to this hotel, I’ll throw you through that panoramic window myself.”
“Mr. Rossi, please! I had no choice!” Victor choked out, setting his glass down before he dropped it. “I didn't know she was your wife! When she was brought here eight months ago, her paperwork was stamped by the corporate holding board!”
Julian’s eyes narrowed. “The corporate holding board. Which means...”
“It came from Rossi Holdings, sir,” Victor whispered, closing his eyes as if bracing for a physical blow. “It came directly from your cousin, Mr. Arthur Rossi.”
The air in the penthouse office seemed to vanish entirely.
Arthur Rossi.
Julian’s own blood. The executive vice president of Rossi Global Real Estate, the man Julian had trusted implicitly with daily operations while he traveled the world securing international acquisitions.
“Arthur,” Julian murmured, the name tasting like ash in his mouth. “My cousin.”
“Mr. Arthur brought her here himself late one night,” Victor explained, trembling. “He said Mrs. Rossi had suffered a severe mental breakdown following a miscarriage scare, that she needed absolute isolation from the public eye, and that putting her to work under a pseudonym in a controlled environment was a form of ‘therapeutic rehabilitation.’ He made us confiscate her phone, her identification, and her car keys.”
Julian stood up slowly. The fury radiating from him was so intense that the room felt suffocating.
“Therapeutic rehabilitation,” Julian repeated, his voice laced with lethal venom. “You forced a pregnant woman to scrub floors for twelve hours a day under the guise of therapy?”
“We didn't know! He threatened to revoke our management contract and ruin us financially if we didn't comply!” Victor pleaded, sliding out of his chair and dropping to his knees. “He said if she ever tried to escape, or if anyone recognized her, the child she was carrying would pay the price!”
Julian froze. The child.
So that was why Elena had looked at him with such agonizing terror in the lobby. That was why she had begged him to stay away. Arthur hadn't just imprisoned her; he had weaponized their unborn child against her.
“Where is Arthur right now?” Julian asked, his voice dropping an octave.
“He... he’s at the corporate headquarters in Manhattan,” Victor stammered. “There’s a board meeting scheduled for this afternoon to vote on the European portfolio acquisition. He’s running the presentation.”
Julian reached into his jacket, pulled out his phone, and dialed a direct number.
“Marcus,” Julian barked the moment the call connected.
“Boss? I heard you were at the Alcazar. Is everything—?”
“Bring the tactical security detail to the front entrance of the Grand Alcazar in five minutes,” Julian commanded, his eyes fixed on the panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline in the distance. “Then secure the penthouse suite. Move my wife upstairs immediately. If a single person looks at her wrong, break their neck.”

“Consider it done, Boss. What’s your next move?”
“I’m going to Manhattan,” Julian said, a cold, ruthless smile touching his lips. “It’s time for a family reunion.”
