Chapter 3 - The Snake in the Family Tree
I ordered my security team to escort Victoria to her private wing and strip her of all security clearance within Moretti Group properties.
As the guards led my mother away, the heavy front doors closed, restoring silence to the estate.
I turned around and knelt beside Elena, who was now kneeling on the floor, comforting Lily and holding Sofia close.
"Sofia," I whispered, my eyes stinging as I looked at my smallest girl. "Show Daddy."
Sofia looked at Elena, who gave her a reassuring nod and a gentle smile. "Go on, sweetheart," Elena whispered. "Show him how strong you are."
Sofia let go of Elena’s hand. Pushing herself up using the edge of the mahogany coffee table, she wobbled onto her two tiny feet. Her small legs shook under her weight, but she locked her knees, took a deep breath, and took three forward steps directly into my open arms.
I pulled her tightly against my chest, burring my face in her shoulder as tears finally spilled past my reserve. For three agonizing years, every top specialist in the world had told me my daughter was condemned to a wheelchair. Yet this quiet woman, who entered my home with nothing but a cleaning mop and a soft smile, had achieved a miracle.
"Thank you," I choked out, looking up at Elena. "I can never repay you for this."
"She did the work, Mr. Moretti," Elena said softly. "I just believed in her when everyone else treated her like she was broken."
That night, after putting the girls to sleep, Marco entered my private study with a confidential file.
"Boss," Marco said gravely. "We ran a deep background audit on your mother's recent communications. She wasn't acting alone when she tried to frame Elena."

"Who was she talking to?" I demanded, swirling the whiskey in my glass.
"Your brother, Dominic," Marco replied. "And we found something far worse. Elena wasn't just a random applicant for the cleaning job. Her father was Dr. Richard Vance—the chief neurosurgeon who was blacklisted eight years ago after testifying against Moretti Medical’s experimental drug trials."
