Chapter 7 - The Master Closet

At 1:15 PM, a tactical squad from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, accompanied by Marcus and two state investigators, arrived at Carmen Robles’ sprawling estate in the gated community of Preston Hollow.
Equipped with a search warrant signed by a state judge based on Javier’s recorded confession, officers breached the front iron gates and entered the mansion.
I accompanied Alexander in his car, parked right outside the estate gates.
"Is this really going to work?" I asked, watching the flashing red and blue lights reflect off the marble fountain in Carmen's driveway.
"Carmen is a narcissist, Elena," Alexander explained, checking his gold watch. "Narcissists never destroy their trophies or their leverage. She kept that notebook because she believed she was smarter than the law, smarter than her lenders, and smarter than us."
Ten minutes later, Marcus walked out of the front entrance carrying a heavy metal box sealed in a clear evidence bag. He walked briskly down the driveway and tapped on Alexander’s window.
Alexander rolled it down.
"We found it," Marcus said, holding up the clear bag. Inside was a thick, dark-blue leather ledger, along with six stolen land titles and three forged power-of-attorney documents—including one bearing Sofia’s forged signature dated two months ago.
"Look at page forty-two, Boss," Marcus added, his voice filled with disgust.
Alexander opened the bag and flipped to the designated page.
Written in Carmen’s elegant, flowing handwriting was a detailed financial blueprint. It listed Sofia’s name at the top, followed by the exact appraisal value of her Uptown Dallas condo ($1.8 million), the estimated speed of liquidation, and a line item that made my blood run stone cold:
“Phase 3: Marriage. Isolate target from mother. Induce compliance through physical pressure if necessary. Liquidate asset before Q3 debt cycle.”
It wasn't an impulsive act of rage.
It was a cold, calculated, premeditated conspiracy to abuse and rob my daughter.
Alexander’s hands gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white.
"Take this directly to District Attorney Vance," Alexander commanded, his voice trembling with a terrifying rage. "I don't just want felony assault charges, Marcus. I want federal wire fraud, attempted grand larceny, and racketeering."
"And Carmen's bail hearing at 2:00 PM?" Marcus asked.

Alexander looked toward the courthouse tower visible in the distance.
"Tell the judge we're adding federal charges," Alexander said softly. "Carmen Robles isn't getting bail today. She’s going straight to federal custody."
