Chapter 6 - The Charity Gala

Three days later, the Grand Plaza Hotel was illuminated with thousands of crystal lights for the annual Metropolitan Health Gala—a gathering of the city's highest elite.
Naomi stepped out of a sleek black towncar wearing an emerald green silk gown that draped elegantly over her frame. Her hair was swept up, exposing her slender neck, but hidden beneath the hem of her gown was a concealed garter holster holding a compact syringe filled with a powerful sedative.
Dominic stepped out beside her, looking dangerously handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. He offered his arm. "Ready, Nurse Vale?"
"Target number two," Naomi murmured, slipping her arm through his. "Dr. Julian Vance. Chief of Surgery at St. Catherine's and lead researcher for Apex Holdings."
Inside the ballroom, hundreds of high-society figures chatted over champagne. Among them was Dr. Julian Vance—a distinguished man in his fifties with silver hair and an arrogant smile, currently standing near the VIP bar with none other than Magistrate Arthur Reed.
"Vance is responsible for approving the falsified medical reports that allowed battered women to be transferred to 'private care facilities' owned by Apex," Naomi whispered as they glided through the crowd. "Facilities they never walked out of."
"Tonight, we take his keycards and his encrypted phone," Dominic said. "My tech specialist is waiting in the basement control room."
As Dominic engaged Arthur Reed in a icy verbal duel to draw attention away, Naomi maneuvered through the crowd toward Dr. Vance. She waited until Vance stepped into the quiet hallway leading to the private executive suites.
"Dr. Vance," Naomi called out softly.

Vance turned, admiring the beautiful woman in emerald green before recognition flickered in his eyes. "You... you're that rogue nurse from the ER."
"I am," Naomi said, stepping closer, her voice smooth as velvet. "And I have something that belongs to you."
