Chapter 5 - The Billionaire's Wrath

By noon, the financial world of New York City was in a state of absolute, unmitigated panic.
Without warning, Thorne Enterprises unleashed an economic blitzkrieg that sent shockwaves through Wall Street. First came the announcement of Rossi Textiles' sudden, catastrophic receivership. Long-standing suppliers pulled out within minutes; bank accounts were frozen; and by lunchtime, bailiffs were already padlocking the historic Rossi manufacturing warehouses in Queens.
Lawrence Rossi—Isabella’s aging, arrogant father—suffered a mild heart attack in his country club office when his private banker informed him that his family had been wiped out overnight, down to their last luxury vehicle and summer home in the Hamptons.
At the same time, Julian Vance watched in sheer disbelief as his corporate empire was dismantled block by block. Thorne Enterprises had quietly bought up a controlling majority of Vanguard Holdings' public stock through anonymous shell portfolios, sweeping in with a hostile takeover that stripped Julian of his voting rights before the opening bell even rang.
By 2:00 PM, Julian’s board of directors had voted unanimously to oust him as CEO, terrified of being crushed under the rolling juggernaut of Marcus Thorne’s wrath.
Isabella Rossi, meanwhile, was sitting in a holding cell at the Midtown Manhattan precinct.
She wore the same crimson silk gown, now wrinkled, stained, and utterly ruined. Her hair was coming undone in messy strands around her face. The makeup she had applied with such care the night before was smeared across her cheeks from silent, hysterical tears.
The heavy metal door of the holding cell unlocked with a loud clank.
Two uniformed officers stepped aside.
A tall, impeccably dressed man stepped into the dingy room. It wasn't her father. It wasn't a defense attorney.
It was Marcus Thorne.
He didn't look angry. He looked like an executioner—calm, detached, and entirely devoid of mercy.
Isabella scrambled backward against the concrete wall, her eyes wide with terror. "Marcus... Marcus, please! You have to help me! My father... my father had a heart attack, they said he's in the hospital—"
"Your father is bankrupt, Isabella," Marcus interrupted, his voice cutting through her panicked hysteria like a razor. "Your family home was seized an hour ago. Your accounts are frozen. Your friends have already blocked your number. You don't exist anymore."
Isabella stared at him, her chest heaving as the horrifying reality set in. "You... you did this? Over a... over a little push?"
"You tried to kill my wife," Marcus said, stepping closer until towering over her cowering form. "You tried to murder my unborn child. A push? No, Isabella. That was an execution attempt."
"I'm sorry!" she sobbed, collapsing onto her knees on the cold concrete floor, clutching at the hem of his expensive trousers. "Please, Marcus! Have mercy! I'll leave the country! I'll never come back! Just don't let them send me to prison!"
Marcus slowly pulled his trouser leg out of her desperate grip, stepping back as if touching her would contaminate him.

"Mercy is something you offer human beings, Isabella," Marcus said softly, turning toward the door. "You are just an expensive mistake that I am about to sweep into the trash."
He walked out of the cell, the heavy metal door slamming shut behind him with a final, echoing crash, sealing her fate forever.
