Chapter 9 - The Forever After

One year later.
The private garden estate of the Carter Family in Upstate New York was a dream of blooming white roses, green manicured lawns, and soft golden evening light.
Soft violin music floated through the warm air as two hundred close friends, family members, and foundation partners sat under an elegant white canopy, watching the ceremony of a lifetime.
I walked down the aisle lined with white rose petals, wearing a breathtaking lace wedding gown that flowed around me like water. My dark hair was styled softly with fresh jasmine blossoms, and my heart beat with a quiet, unshakeable joy.
At the end of the aisle stood Ethan.
He wore an immaculate black tuxedo, looking more handsome than I had ever seen him. But it wasn't his suit or his wealth that took my breath away—it was the way he looked at me. His eyes were filled with tears of pure devotion, as if I were the only person in the entire universe.
When I reached the altar, Ethan took my hands in his, pressing his lips gently against my knuckles.
The minister smiled warmly at both of us.
“Ethan and Ava,” the minister announced, his voice carrying clearly over the peaceful garden. “You have walked through the storm together. You have proven that love is not about possession or power—it is about protection, truth, and unconditional grace.”
Ethan stepped forward, looking directly into my eyes as he delivered his vows.
“Ava,” Ethan said, his voice deep and steady. “I promise to honor you, to respect you, and to stand as your shield against every storm. I promise to listen to you, to build a home of safety and laughter with you, and to love you more with every breath I take. You are my home, Ava. Forever.”
Tears of pure bliss rolled down my cheeks as I spoke my vows.
“Ethan,” I said softly, holding his hands tight. “You walked into my darkest room and showed me the light. You taught me that I am worthy of love, of safety, and of happiness. I promise to love you, to cherish you, and to walk beside you through every chapter of our lives. You are my hero, Ethan.”
“By the power vested in me,” the minister declared with a broad smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Ethan, you may kiss your bride!”
Ethan didn't wait a single second. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly, and pressed his lips against mine in a deep, passionate kiss that made the entire garden erupt into thunderous, joyous applause.
Friends, colleagues, and foundation staff stood up from their seats, cheering and clapping as Ethan lifted me up into his arms, both of us laughing with pure, radiant happiness.
As the sun set behind the rolling hills, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of pink, gold, and violet, Ethan and I walked hand-in-hand down the rose-petaled aisle toward our guests.
