Chapter 10 - The Empress of Chicago

Three years later.

The summer sunset over Lake Michigan cast a golden glow across the private terrace of the Blackwood estate.

Down on the green lawn, nine-year-old Leo was running with Bruno, throwing a tennis ball toward the water, their laughter ringing through the warm evening air.

Sitting on the plush terrace sofa was Ivy Blackwood.

She wore a soft, comfortable silk robe, her dark hair falling loosely over her shoulders. Resting peacefully in her arms was a three-month-old baby girl with dark hair and striking gray eyes—little Sophia Arthur Blackwood.

The glass doors behind her opened, and Ronan walked out onto the terrace.

He had removed his jacket and tie, wearing a soft white shirt. He walked over, sitting beside Ivy, wrapping his broad arm around her shoulders, pulling her and the baby close against his side.

He bent down, kissing the top of baby Sophia’s dark head, then pressed a lingering, tender kiss to Ivy’s lips.

"She finally fell asleep?" Ronan asked softly.

"Just two minutes ago," Ivy smiled, looking down at their sleeping daughter. "She has your appetite and your stubbornness."

"Good," Ronan chuckled softly, resting his chin on Ivy’s shoulder, watching Leo playing on the lawn below. "That means she’ll know how to run the company when she grows up."

Ivy leaned her head back against Ronan’s chest, feeling the deep, steady rhythm of his heart beneath her cheek.

In the distance, the lights of Chicago began to twinkle along the skyline—the city where she had once been a broke, humiliated maid scrubbing floors in silence.

Now, she was the co-owner of its largest financial empire, the founder of the city's greatest charitable trust, and the protected, cherished wife of the most powerful man in Illinois.

Vivien Hale and Julian Vance were serving long prison sentences, forgotten by the society they had tried to rule.

And here, on the terrace overlooking the lake, sat the true family that had been forged in fire, built on integrity, and sealed with unyielding love.

Ronan pulled the warm blanket higher over Ivy’s shoulders, his fingers hand-in-hand with hers, the heavy yellow diamond sparkling brightly under the starlit sky.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Ronan whispered in the quiet night.

Ivy looked up at her husband, her face radiant with peace, joy, and absolute fulfillment.

"I’m thinking," Ivy replied softly, "that sometimes, the worst day of your life is just the universe clearing the floor so you can build a palace."

Ronan smiled, pulling her closer into his arms as the stars shone bright over the home they had built together—a home where love was boundless, dignity was absolute, and no one would ever be forced to shrink again.
