Chapter 8 - The Transformation

Six months later.

The spring sun shone bright and warm over the fully restored Lake Geneva estate. The broken marble had been replaced with warm Italian travertine, the conservatory was filled with blooming white orchids, and the high security perimeter was now garrisoned by the most advanced systems in the country.

In the downtown financial district, the name Bennett & Blackwood Financial was now etched in gold over the doors of the city's largest investment tower.

Ivy had not only cleared her father's name completely; she had successfully recovered forty million dollars in stolen assets for working-class families who had been scammed by Vance’s bank. She was celebrated across Chicago as the "Guardian of the South Side"—a powerful, brilliant woman who used her authority to protect the defenseless.

And today was the day Chicago had been waiting for.

Inside the master suite of the Blackwood estate, Ivy stood before a floor-to-ceiling mirror.

She wore a custom-designed, off-the-shoulder wedding gown made of French silk and hand-stitched pearl lace. The dress didn't try to hide her hourglass curves; it celebrated them with breathtaking, royal elegance. A long cathedral veil trailed behind her, pinned with her mother's silver comb.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," Ivy said, turning around.

Malcolm walked in, wearing a sharp tux with a white rose on his lapel. When he saw her, the old butler wiped a tear from his eye.

"You are the most magnificent sight this house has ever seen, Miss Ivy," Malcolm said emotionally. "Your father would be so proud."

"Thank you, Malcolm," Ivy smiled, taking his arm. "Is everyone ready?"

"The guests are seated in the garden," Malcolm replied. "And Master Leo has already eaten three mini cupcakes despite my explicit instructions."

Ivy laughed softly as they descended the grand staircase together.

Down in the private estate gardens, three hundred guests sat under white silk canopies. Federal judges, rescued bank clients, estate staff, and city leaders sat side-by-side, united in their deep respect for the couple being wed today.

Standing at the altar under a canopy of white roses was Ronan Blackwood.

He wore a dark charcoal tuxedo, looking impossibly handsome. Beside him stood six-year-old Leo, looking sharp in his matching mini-tuxedo, holding the velvet ring pillow, with Bruno sitting regally beside him wearing a white floral collar.

The string quartet began to play the opening notes of Canon in D.

The crowd stood as one.

Ivy walked out onto the stone aisle.

When Ronan looked up and saw her, the formidable, feared billionaire lost his breath completely. Tears shone in his gray eyes as he watched his bride walk toward him under the summer sun—unbroken, radiant, and powerful.

When Malcolm placed Ivy’s hand in Ronan’s, Ronan held her fingers as if they were the most precious treasure on earth.

"You take my breath away, Ivy," Ronan whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.

"You gave me my breath back, Ronan," Ivy replied softly.

The priest stepped forward, his voice echoing over the peaceful lake:

"We are gathered here today to unite two souls who proved that light will always conquer darkness, and that true love is built on honor, strength, and unwavering loyalty..."
