Chapter 6 - The Crown She Reclaimed

The next morning at 8:00 a.m., I sat in the chair of the top celebrity hair stylist in Beverly Hills, whom my attorney had flown in overnight.

He looked at my cropped, hacked locks with deep sympathy. “My dear... what did they do to you?”

“They thought they were cutting off my dignity,” I smiled gently, looking in the mirror. “Make it sharp. Make it dangerous.”

An hour later, I stepped out of the salon chair transformed.

My ruined long hair had been turned into an exquisite, fierce, platinum-toned pixie cut that accentuated my high cheekbones and sharp jawline. I looked bold, commanding, and utterly unshakeable.

At 9:00 a.m., I walked into the grand auditorium of the Carter Logistics headquarters.

Over fifty journalists, camera crews, and major shareholders filled the room, murmuring with intense speculation following the viral news of Daniel’s arrest the previous evening.

I stepped onto the illuminated stage, wearing a double-breasted emerald suit, my new pixie cut shining beneath the studio lights. The camera flashes exploded like lightning.

“Good morning,” my voice echoed through the high-grade audio system. “My name is Emily Carter. For ten years, I have served as the silent founder and majority shareholder of Vanguard Logistics—formerly known as Carter Logistics.”

The room went dead silent.

“Effective immediately, Daniel Carter has been removed as CEO due to criminal fraud, gross breach of trust, and pending felony charges,” I announced, as a slide deck behind me displayed full documentation of the company’s actual ownership structure. “I am stepping into the role of Executive Chairwoman and active CEO.”

A reporter raised her hand frantically. “Mrs. Carter! Is it true that your husband’s assistant physically attacked you prior to his arrest?!”

I looked directly into the primary news camera, smiling serenely.

“They tried to cut me down,” I answered, running a hand through my sleek new hair. “But all they did was remove the weight holding me back. Under my direct leadership, Vanguard Logistics will expand by thirty percent this fiscal quarter, and every dollar stolen will be recovered.”

By noon, news of my press conference exploded across every business outlet in the country. Vanguard’s stock price didn't fall—it surged by 18% in afternoon trading, as Wall Street realized the real brain behind the company was finally at the helm.
