Chapter 8 - A New Dawn at the Moretti Estate

Three months later, the spring sun broke warm and bright over the manicured lawns of the Westchester estate.

The bullet holes in the grand foyer had long since been repaired, replaced by gleaming marble and restored mahogany. But the most significant change wasn't architectural; it was atmospheric.

Laughter echoed through the high-ceilinged hallways—the bright, bubbling laughter of a four-year-old girl chasing a golden retriever across the East Lawn.

On the stone patio, Emma stood leaning against the balustrade, wearing a simple yellow summer dress that caught the morning breeze. Her dark hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, free of the gray housekeeping uniform that had once defined her entire existence in this house.

Heavy footsteps approached from behind, and a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest.

“You’re daydreaming,” Alessandro murmured, pressing a soft kiss against the nape of her neck.

“I’m just enjoying the quiet,” Emma smiled, leaning back into his embrace. “It’s been an awfully peaceful week.”

“Peaceful is overrated,” Alessandro joked, though his eyes were warm and content as he watched Lily attempt to teach the golden retriever how to sit. “Though I admit, I prefer this version of the estate.”

From across the lawn, Lily spotted them. She abandoned the dog, scooped up a brand-new, unbugged cloth doll—stitched with a bright pink ribbon by Emma’s own hands—and came running toward the patio as fast as her small legs could carry her.

“Mommy! Alessandro!” she shouted, breathless and grinning from ear to ear. “Look! Daisy wants to go for a ride in the garden!”

Alessandro knelt down on one knee as the little girl reached them, scooping her up into his arms with effortless strength. Lily threw her arms around his neck, planting an enthusiastic kiss right on his cheek.

Alessandro looked from the child in his arms to the woman standing beside him, realizing that the empire he had built with blood and fear was finally anchored by something real.

“Alright, princess,” Alessandro smiled, his gray eyes shining with a rare, absolute joy. “Let’s go show Daisy the garden.”
