Chapter 4 - Stranded in Paradise

Six thousand miles away, in the ultra-exclusive coastal village of Seminyak, Bali, the morning sun was rising over the private infinity pool of the Aura Wellness Resort.

Madison Bennett sat in a wicker cabana, wrapped in a plush linen robe, holding a mimosa while her personal photographer edited photos for her Instagram feed. She had spent the last three days posting curated stories titled: Self-Care & Island Peace with tiny, subtle captions hinting at "family drama she was gracefully stepping away from."

Her phone buzzed. A notification popped up from the resort's front desk management.

She swiped it open lazily, expecting her daily spa schedule. Instead, a red alert banner flashed across the screen.

URGENT NOTICE: Transaction declined for Guest Reservation #8841. The primary Black Card ending in 4092 has been flagged for insufficient funds/account freeze. Please report to the concierge immediately to settle the outstanding balance of $18,450.00 USD.

Madison nearly choked on her drink. "What the hell?" she muttered, furiously tapping her banking app.

ACCOUNT ACCESS RESTRICTED. CONTACT YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION.

Panicked, she tried her backup corporate card—the one her father had set up under Bennett Apparel Group.

DECLINED.

She dialed our father’s direct line. It rang twice before Robert picked up, his voice sounding exhausted, hoarse, and aged ten years.

"Madison," Robert rasped. "Where are you?"

"Dad! What is going on with my cards?!" Madison shrieked, stepping away from her photographer. "The resort just declined my card! They’re asking for eighteen thousand dollars! I have a private sound bath in twenty minutes!"

"Madison, listen to me," Robert panicked, lowering his voice. "You need to pack your bags and check out right now. Fly back to California immediately."

"What?! No! My retreat goes through next Thursday! Why are the cards frozen? Did you forget to pay the bill?"

"Ethan Cole froze the accounts," Robert spat, his tone venomous. "That pathetic little husband of your sister’s filed a fraudulent claim against the estate. He had the courts lock everything down."

"Then fix it!" Madison yelled, her polished facade completely shattering. "Tell Claire to make him drop it! She always listens to you! Just tell her I’m stressed!"

"She blocked my number, Madison!" Robert shouted back, losing his composure. "She blocked her mother! She let that bastard stand up in front of two hundred people last night and expose our business to the entire city! The story is already circulating among our investors! Nobody is answering my calls!"

"I don't care about your investors, Dad!" Madison screamed, tears of rage ruining her designer makeup. "I care about the fact that I’m standing in a resort in Bali and I can't even order breakfast! Call Claire from Mom’s phone! Threaten to disown her! Do something!"

Silence hung over the line for a long, painful moment.

"Madison..." Robert said, his voice quiet and broken. "She doesn't care if we disown her anymore. She walked down that aisle without us. She didn't cry. She didn't look back."

"Well, I’m not paying for this!" Madison stamped her foot on the deck. "Make her pay for it! It’s her fault my trip is ruined!"

Before Robert could answer, two tall, uniformed security officers from the resort stepped onto the cabana deck, accompanied by the stern-faced resort manager.

"Miss Bennett?" the manager asked in polite, measured English. "We need you to accompany us to the front desk. Your room key has been deactivated until your bill is settled in full."

"Get your hands off me!" Madison yelled, backing away as the camera crew looked on in absolute horror. "Do you know who my father is?!"

"We do not," the manager replied coldly. "But we know your payment failed. Please follow us."
