Chapter 7 - The Hunt for Baby Lily

Before the needle could touch my neck, the nursery door was kicked open with thunderous force.

David burst into the room like a freight train. He grabbed Mark by the throat, slammed him across the changing table, and drove a vicious right hook into Mark’s jaw.

Mark hit the floor with a heavy thud, blood spurting from his lip, out cold.

"Emma! Are you okay?!" David yelled, checking my neck.

"I'm fine!" I gasped, grabbing Max, who was crying in the hallway. "We need to get to the Montgomery estate now!"

David hauled Mark up from the floor, securing his hands behind his back with heavy plastic zip-ties, and dragged him out to the SUV parked in the driveway.

We threw Mark into the back seat. David pointed a heavy 9mm pistol at Mark’s knee.

"Give me the address of the private estate where Richard Montgomery is holding the baby," David growled, racking the slide of the gun with a loud CLICK. "Or you won't walk for the next ten years."

Mark, sweating frantically, looked at the gun, then at my cold, unforgiving eyes in the rearview mirror.

"1400 Old Mill Road... the private estate in Westchester," Mark wept, wiping blood from his mouth. "They have a private medical nursery set up in the west wing! A private pediatrician is arriving at midnight to sign the forged home-birth certificates!"

I looked at the clock on the dashboard: 11:15 PM.

We had forty-five minutes before the forged paperwork was signed and my daughter was legally erased forever.

"Drive," I told David.
