Chapter 6 - Cornered Rats

The fall of the three dynasties was swift, violent, and absolute.
Within forty-eight hours, the news was dominated by the complete destruction of the Cole, Hale, and Whitmore fortunes. The public watched in awe as three of the most powerful families in the state crumbled like houses of cards.
Inside a secluded, high-security mansion in the Hamptons—the last asset Arthur Whitmore hadn't yet lost to federal seizure—Ethan Cole, Brandon Hale, and Tyler Whitmore were hiding like trapped animals.
The mansion was dark. Heavy curtains covered every window. Outside, rain beat against the glass with furious intensity.
Ethan sat on a leather sofa, clutching a bottle of cheap whiskey. His father was in federal remand; his luxury sports cars had been towed away that morning.
"We need to leave the country," Ethan muttered, his eyes bloodshot and wild. "We need to get a private boat to the Bahamas."
"With what money?!" Brandon screamed from across the room. "My mother’s bank accounts are frozen! My name is on every news channel in America! If I show my face at an airport, the TSA will arrest me on sight!"
Tyler Whitmore walked back and forth nervously, holding a glass of scotch with trembling hands. "This isn't normal. This isn't just the media or the law. Someone is doing this to us."
"Who?!" Ethan slammed his bottle onto the coffee table. "That girl’s father?! He’s a nobody! He runs a tiny import firm!"
"A nobody?" Tyler turned to Ethan, his voice shaking. "Ethan, my dad lost two billion dollars in six hours! The trades didn't come from Wall Street—they came from shadow banks in Zurich and Hong Kong! The kind of organizations that don't exist unless you know the secret handshakes! That girl’s father isn't a businessman..."
Before Tyler could finish his sentence, the heavy wooden front doors of the estate groaned under a sudden, strange pressure.
Then, the mansion's generator cut out.
The lights went completely black.
The three boys froze in the pitch darkness, the sound of their own panicked breathing filling the vast room.
Outside, the ten private mercenaries Arthur Whitmore had hired to guard the perimeter suddenly stopped communicating over their tactical radios. One by one, the radios clicked into static, followed by silence.
"Security?" Tyler called out into his phone, his hand shaking uncontrollably. "Security! Come in! Report!"

Nothing came through the speaker except the rhythmic sound of heavy rain falling outside.
"He’s here," Brandon whimpered, backing into a corner, dropping to the floor. "Oh God... he’s here..."
