Chapter 6 - The Siege of Westchester

At 1:00 AM, the storm outside reached its peak. Heavy thunder shook the estate, and lightning illuminated the thick pine forests surrounding the perimeter walls.

Inside the main house, the lights were out.

Elena sat inside the reinforced panic room hidden behind the master bedroom closet. The heavy steel door was locked from the inside, equipped with independent air filtration and tactical monitors displaying every security camera on the property.

Beside her, all four children were awake.

The triplets were sitting on a pile of plush velvet blankets, while Sophie held their hands. Little Nora was whimpering softly, frightened by the muffled thuds echoing through the estate walls.

“Shh, sweetie,” Elena whispered, pulling Nora into her lap, wrapping her arms around all of them. “It’s okay. Mr. Addy is taking care of everything.”

Outside the panic room, the estate had turned into a battleground.

Lorenzo Falco, believing Adrien’s security was compromised based on the bugged doll’s feed, had sent sixteen elite mercenaries through the north gate, intending to burn the estate and execute Adrien in his sleep.

They didn't find a grieving, helpless widower.

They found Adrien Moretti waiting in the dark.

The front marble foyer exploded with gunfire as Marco’s men ambushed the intruders from the upper balconies. Adrien moved through the shadows like a ghost, his weapons firing with lethal, terrifying precision. Every tactical step he took was driven by eight months of buried rage, avenging his late wife and protecting the new light that had entered his home.

Within twenty minutes, twelve of Falco’s mercenaries were neutralized.

The remaining four retreated toward the rear terrace, only to find Adrien standing in the rain, blocking their escape route under the flash of lightning.

Standing behind the mercenaries was Lorenzo Falco himself—a heavy, arrogant man wearing a soaked trench coat, his right hand flashing with a heavy gold snake ring.

“Moretti!” Falco shouted over the roar of thunder, his voice laced with panic as he held a hand grenade. “You think you’ve won?! I will blow this whole damn wing to hell!”

Adrien didn't flinch. He didn't cover for safety. He stepped forward into the pouring rain, his dark eyes burning with pure, predatory hatred.

“You took my wife, Lorenzo,” Adrien said, his voice carrying clearly over the storm. “You threatened my children. You brought terror to my home.”

Before Falco could pull the pin on the grenade, a single, high-calibrated sniper shot echoed from the roof of the barn.

Marco’s sniper took Falco’s hand off at the wrist.

Falco screamed in agony, falling to his knees in the mud as the grenade rolled harmlessly away into the grass, unprimed.

Adrien walked over slowly. He stepped on Falco’s chest, pinning the bleeding mob boss into the cold mud.

Adrien bent down, looking straight into the eyes of the man who had destroyed his world eight months ago.

“This is for Claire,” Adrien whispered.

He pulled the trigger once.

Silence returned to the Westchester estate, broken only by the steady falling of the rain.
