Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Ambush

Three days later, the annual general shareholder meeting of Cárdenas Enterprises was held at the corporate headquarters in Zapopan.
The atmosphere in the massive glass-walled boardroom was thick with tension and nervous whispers. For weeks, rumors had swirled through the financial district: Was Daniel Cárdenas dead? Was he alive? Who was running the company?
Executives, board members, and minority shareholders sat around the massive mahogany table, murmuring among themselves. Seated at the far end of the table was Eduardo Garza, Brenda’s defense lawyer, who had been granted temporary proxy access to oversee the asset transfer agreements.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the end of the boardroom swung wide open.
A hush fell over the entire room.
Walking through the doors wasn't a ghost. It wasn't a broken man.
It was Daniel Cárdenas.
He was dressed in an impeccably tailored navy suit, walking with an upright, powerful stride. Right beside him walked Doña Aurora, dressed in an elegant black-and-silver dress, her head held high with the quiet dignity of a queen entering her throne room. Flanking them on both sides were four federal marshals in full uniform.
Every single executive stood up from their chairs in sheer disbelief. Several people dropped their pens. One junior VP gasped loudly.
Daniel walked straight to the head of the table—the executive chair that had been draped in black cloth during the weeks of presumed mourning—and calmly pulled the chair back.
He sat down, resting his hands flat on the polished mahogany surface, and looked around the room.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,” Daniel said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “I apologize for the brief interruption in my schedule. I had a prior engagement... underground.”
A nervous chuckle rippled through the room, though nobody dared to laugh out loud.
Eduardo Garza turned pale, his hands shaking as he clutched his briefcase. “Mr... Mr. Cárdenas? How... how is this possible? The death certificate... the medical examiner—”
“The medical examiner is currently sharing a holding cell with my ex-wife,” Daniel interrupted smoothly, leaning forward. “And as of 8:00 a.m. this morning, every single proxy agreement, asset transfer, and corporate restructuring document signed under duress or fraudulent pretenses has been legally declared null and void by the Federal District Court.”
Daniel tapped a single sheet of paper on the glass table.
“Furthermore,” Daniel continued, his eyes locking onto Garza with a piercing glare, “pursuant to Article 44 of the Corporate Governance Act, any board member or legal representative found to be complicit in corporate fraud, embezzlement, or conspiracy against the executive director is subject to immediate termination and criminal prosecution.”
Garza scrambled backward out of his chair, grabbing his briefcase. “This... this is an outrage! I am leaving!”
“You’re not going anywhere, Counselor,” Commander Silva’s voice echoed from the doorway as two federal officers stepped forward, blocking the exit and snapping handcuffs onto Garza’s wrists before he could take three steps.

“By order of the federal prosecutor,” Silva announced, “you are under arrest for conspiracy to obstruct justice and money laundering.”
As Garza was dragged out of the boardroom in handcuffs, the remaining board members sat frozen in their seats, staring at Daniel with a mixture of awe and absolute terror. The empire had not fallen. It had reclaimed its king.
