Chapter 9 - The Trial of Steel and Velvet

Forty-eight hours later, the Hale empire crumbled to ashes.
News crews broadcast live from outside the Federal Courthouse as federal marshals led Julian Hale away in handcuffs, his assets frozen and his shipping licenses revoked forever.
Vivienne Hale was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, grand fraud, and felony assault. Her mugshot—tear-stained, ruined hair, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit—was splashed across every magazine cover in the country.
Meanwhile, Ivy Lancaster stood outside the court building, surrounded by dozens of reporters.
"Miss Lancaster! Is it true that you helped the FBI assemble the financial evidence against the Hales?" a journalist shouted.
"Miss Lancaster, what is your relationship with Lord Blackwood?" another asked.
Ivy stepped up to the podium, looking elegant in a cream-colored tailored suit that accentuated her stunning silhouette.
"The Hale family destroyed many lives to build their fortune," Ivy spoke into the microphones, her voice firm and ringing with authority. "My family was one of them. Today, justice was served. As for the Lancaster name... we are reopening Lancaster Logistics next week, fully backed by Blackwood Global."
The reporters gasped and shouted questions, but Ivy simply smiled, turned, and walked down the marble steps.
At the bottom of the stairs, standing beside an open Maybach, was Ronan.
He didn't care about the cameras. He didn't care about the reporters.
As Ivy approached, Ronan walked up to her, caught her by the waist, and lifted her off her feet, spinning her around as if she weighed nothing at all.
"You were incredible in there," Ronan growled softly against her ear before setting her down.
"I had a good teacher," Ivy blushed, resting her hands against his chest.
Ronan looked into her eyes, his expression turning deeply serious. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a velvet box.
The crowd of reporters went completely quiet, cameras clicking furiously.
Ronan didn't get down on one knee—he was a king who knelt to no man—but he opened the box, revealing a breathtaking cushion-cut royal blue sapphire ring, surrounded by flawless diamonds.
"Three weeks ago, I watched a woman stand up to cruelty with more courage than any soldier I’ve ever commanded," Ronan said, his voice echoing clearly across the courtyard. "You tried to protect a frightened girl while bleeding through your own clothes. You showed me what true loyalty and strength look like."
He took her right hand, his thumb stroking her skin gently.
"Ivy Lancaster, I don't want an administrator. I don't want an business partner. I want you as my Queen. Marry me."
Ivy looked at the powerful man who had saved her, honored her, loved her curves, and given her back her voice. Tears of pure happiness filled her eyes.
"Yes," Ivy whispered, a brilliant smile breaking across her face. "Yes, Ronan! Absolutely yes!"

Ronan slid the massive sapphire onto her finger, pulled her flush against his chest, and dipped her low, kissing her passionately in front of the entire world.
The reporters cheered, camera flashes exploded like fireworks, and for the first time in her life, Ivy Lancaster knew she was exactly where she belonged.
