Chapter 5 - Redefining Power

By noon the next day, the entire city’s elite network was in absolute chaos.
Headlines dominated the underground news networks: BLACKWOOD-HALE ENGAGEMENT SHATTERED. JULIAN HALE’S DAUGHTER ESCORTED OFF ESTATE BY ARMED GUARDS.
Inside the Blackwood estate, Ivy woke up in a room she didn't recognize. The bed was massive, covered in silk sheets that felt like clouds against her skin. Her shoulder was bandaged and pain-free, thanks to Dr. Harrison’s advanced medical ointments.
A knock sounded at the door, and Mrs. Gable, the stern head housekeeper who usually assigned Ivy her daily cleaning duties, walked in. But Mrs. Gable wasn't holding a broom or a bucket. She was carrying three large garment bags and holding a tray of hot tea and fresh pastries.
"Good morning, Miss Lancaster," Mrs. Gable said respectfully, bowing slightly.
Ivy gasped, scrambling to sit up. "Mrs. Gable! Please, don't bow to me! I need to get into my uniform and clean the East Wing—"
"You will never touch a mop in this house again, child," Mrs. Gable said gently, placing the tray on the bedside table. "By order of Lord Blackwood, your contract as a domestic staff member has been terminated."
Ivy’s blood ran cold. "He fired me?"
"No," Mrs. Gable smiled warmly. "He hired you as his Executive Personal Administrator. Your salary has been multiplied by ten. And these are your new clothes."
Mrs. Gable unzipped the garment bags. Inside were stunning, custom-designed outfits made from rich velvets, silks, and tailored cashmere—all specially cut to flatter Ivy’s luscious, hourglass curves.
"Lord Blackwood noticed how the standard maid uniforms didn't fit your natural frame properly," Mrs. Gable added with a knowing twinkle in her eye. "He personally called the city's finest tailor at two in the morning to have these delivered."
Ivy touched the soft fabric of an emerald-green silk dress, her mind spinning.
An hour later, dressed in the emerald dress that hugged her waist and celebrated every gorgeous curve of her body, Ivy walked down to Ronan’s private office.
Ronan was sitting behind a massive glass desk, surrounded by computer monitors displaying stock charts and tactical maps. He was wearing a crisp black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing dark tattoos etched into his skin.
When Ivy walked in, Ronan stopped talking to Kaelen mid-sentence.
His eyes swept over her from head to toe, lingering on the way the emerald green silk wrapped around her hips and emphasized her soft, feminine allure. A dark, appreciative gleam flashed in his gray eyes.
"Kaelen, leave us," Ronan murmured without taking his eyes off Ivy.
"Yes, Boss," Kaelen smirked, bowing out of the room.
Ivy stepped closer to the desk, her heart pounding against her ribs. "Ronan... what is all this? The clothes, the promotion, the salary?"
Ronan stood up, walking around the desk until he was standing right in front of her. He smelled dangerously good.
"You have an administrative degree from Columbia University before your father died, don't you?" Ronan asked calmly.
"I... yes, I do," Ivy admitted.
"Then you are vastly overqualified to clean my floors," Ronan stated flatly. "You know the Hale family's business structures better than anyone because your father built half of them. I need someone I can trust to help me dismantle Julian Hale’s empire."

Ivy looked at him, realizing the genius of his move. "You're going to war with them."
"They took everything from you, Ivy," Ronan said, his voice dropping an octave, rich and possessive. "Now, you and I are going to take it all back."
