Chapter 9 - The Wedding Under the White Roses

One year after the night the rain brought everything crashing down.
The rear lawn of the Bedford estate was transformed into a fairytale sanctuary. Hundreds of white roses—the same flowers that had once smelled of deception—now lined a grand wooden pergola facing the lake, symbolizing a fresh, pure beginning built on truth.
Over one hundred guests—close friends, trusted business leaders, and Rosa’s entire family from Queens—sat in the white wooden chairs under the warm afternoon sun.
Standing at the altar under the white rose arch was Damian Cole.
He looked striking in a midnight-black tuxedo, his hair neatly combed back, his eyes locked onto the end of the white carpet aisle with intense, breathless anticipation. Beside him stood Gabe, serving as his best man.
The string quartet began to play a soft, breathtaking arrangement of classical melody.
Walking down the aisle first was four-year-old Mia.
She wore a beautiful white lace flower girl dress with a big satin bow, holding a tiny basket of rose petals, which she scattered across the carpet with big, proud grins.
Then came Rosa.
She was radiant. Her ivory silk wedding dress flowed around her like water, fitted at the waist and trailing gracefully behind her. Her veil fluttered gently in the breeze, framing a face illuminated by pure, radiant happiness.
When she reached the altar, Damian stepped down to take her hands into his.
His fingers locked with hers, steady and warm.
The priest began the holy ceremony, his voice carrying over the peaceful sounds of the lake.
When it came time for the vows, Damian pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket, looking into Rosa’s eyes with absolute devotion.
“Rosa,” Damian said, his voice strong and clear. “A year ago, I lived in a castle made of stone, afraid of trust and surrounded by shadows. You walked into my life, stripped away the lies, and taught me that real power isn't built on wealth—it’s built on love, honesty, and family. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and protect you and Mia with every breath I have, for all the days of my life.”
Rosa wiped a tear from her cheek, smiling radiantly as she spoke her vows.
“Damian,” Rosa murmured softly. “You proved to me that a true man doesn't just build an empire—he protects the people inside it. You gave my daughter a father and gave me a love I never dared to dream of. My heart is yours, today and forever.”
“By the power vested in me,” the priest declared with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Damian, you may kiss your bride!”
Damian didn't wait. He pulled Rosa into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet, and kissed her deeply, passionately, as the crowd erupted into cheers, applause, and happy tears.
Little Mia ran up to the altar, wrapping her small arms around both of their legs.
Damian picked Mia up in his left arm while keeping his right arm wrapped securely around his new wife’s waist.

As the sun began to set over the lake, painting the sky in deep shades of rose, gold, and lavender, Damian looked down at his wife and daughter.
The shadows of the past were gone forever. The secret was buried, the lies were defeated, and in their place stood a real home built on unbreakable love.
