Chapter 8 - Dawn at the Penthouse

One year later.

The penthouse ballroom of the Ellison Tower was filled once again with laughter, music, and the clinking of crystal champagne flutes.

There were no spies. No hidden wiretaps. No corrupt politicians or backstabbing socialites.

Tonight was a celebration of a very different kind.

The ballroom was decorated in soft whites and golds, filled with close friends, trusted colleagues, and federal officials who had helped rebuild the empire from the ashes.

At the center of the room stood a magnificent floral archway.

And waiting beneath it, dressed in a sharp, timeless black tuxedo, was Marcus Ellison.

The heavy mahogany doors swung open.

The string quartet began to play a soft, enchanting melody.

Walking down the aisle was Lily, wearing a little pink dress with matching pink socks, carefully scattering white rose petals across the herringbone floor, clutching Mr. Ears under one arm like a seasoned professional flower girl.

And right behind her, walking with her head held high, wearing an exquisite, flowing ivory silk gown that embraced her curves with breathtaking elegance, was me.

I looked across the room and caught Marcus’s eyes.

The cold, intimidating billionaire who had once terrified the financial world was looking at me as if I were the only person in the entire universe. His eyes shone with an overwhelming, sacred devotion.

When I reached the altar, Marcus didn't wait for protocol. He stepped forward, took my hands in his, and pressed a tender, lingering kiss against my knuckles.

“You know,” Marcus whispered with a soft, teasing smile, “your daughter still thinks I work for her.”

I laughed, a bright, genuine sound that echoed off the high penthouse glass. “She’s not wrong, Marcus. You’ve been wrapped around her little finger since day one.”

“And her mother,” Marcus murmured, his voice dropping into a low, rumbling promise as he slipped a diamond ring onto my finger that sparkled brighter than any chandelier in the room, “is going to run this empire by my side for the rest of our lives.”

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the sun was rising over Lake Michigan, painting the Chicago skyline in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

The past was burned away. The shadows were gone.

And as Marcus pulled me into his arms for our first dance, surrounded by the family we had built from the ashes of betrayal, I knew we had finally found our home.
