Chapter 7 - A New Horizon

A year later, the ranch was thriving.
We held a grand re-opening of the Reynolds K9 Training & Rescue Sanctuary. Over a hundred friends, family members, law enforcement officers, and community members gathered on the front lawn under the Oklahoma sun.
Tessa stood at the front of the arena, holding the leash of a young German Shepherd she had personally helped train as a therapy dog for children with anxiety. The crowd applauded as she proudly demonstrated the dog’s gentle obedience.
Standing beside me was Clara, holding Miles on her hip. Miles was giggling, reaching out his tiny hands to pat the dog’s head.
"Look at her, Grant," Clara whispered, nodding toward Tessa. "She's so strong."
"She saved this family," I said softly, slipping my hand into Clara’s. "She showed me what real courage looks like."
That evening, after the guests had gone and the dogs were settled in their runs, I sat on the back porch watching the sunset paint the sky in deep shades of gold and orange.
Tessa came out, sitting down on the wooden step beside me, leaning her head against my arm just like she used to when she was little.
"Dad?" she asked softly.
"Yeah, kiddo?"
"Everything turned out okay, didn't it?"
May you like
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder, pulling her close as the cool evening breeze swept across the open field.
"Better than okay, Tessa," I said quietly. "We're home, we're safe, and we're together. That's all that will ever matter."
