Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Reckoning

The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was a glittering sea of gold leaf, black-tie tuxedos, and crystal chandeliers.
Over five hundred of Wall Street's most elite figures—CEOs, senators, hedge fund titans, and high-society royalty—gathered for the annual Whitaker Global Gala.
At the head table sat Eleanor Whitaker, wearing a navy velvet gown worth more than a house, smiling icy smiles for the flashing cameras. Beside her sat Richard Cartwright and Brielle, who wore a shimmering silver dress, trying desperately to pretend the rumors of the broken engagement were nothing more than tabloid gossip.
Eleanor stepped up to the crystal podium, adjusting the microphone. The room fell into respectful silence.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," Eleanor’s crisp voice echoed through the ballroom. "Tonight, as we celebrate thirty years of Whitaker Global’s dominance in the global market, I am proud to announce our upcoming four-billion-dollar expansion—"
CLACK. CLACK. CLACK.
The heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung wide open.
The flashing cameras instantly pivoted toward the entrance.
I walked into the ballroom.
I wore a tailored obsidian-black tuxedo, my hair styled perfectly, radiating an undeniable aura of power. Beside me walked Mara, looking breathlessly beautiful in a floor-length emerald green silk gown, her dark hair pinned up with simple pearl clips.
And walking between us, dressed in matching little black suits and bow ties, were four six-year-old boys.
Milo, Mason, Max, and Micah.
The entire ballroom gasped as one collective breath. Whispers exploded across the room like wildfire.
"Is that... are those Ethan's children?" "My god, look at their faces! They're carbon copies!" "Who is that woman with him?"
Eleanor froze at the podium, her face turning as white as her hair. Brielle gasped, dropping her champagne flute onto the carpet, the glass shattering into a hundred glittering pieces.
I walked slowly down the central aisle, holding Mara's hand, while my four sons walked beside us with heads held high. We stopped directly at the foot of the stage.
"Ethan!" Eleanor hissed into the microphone, her voice trembling with rage. "What is the meaning of this outrage?! Security, remove these people immediately!"
Not a single security guard moved. Marcus and ten of my personal contractors stood at every exit, blocking the hotel staff.
I stepped onto the stage, pulling a wireless microphone from the podium holster.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," my voice boomed across the ballroom, smooth, powerful, and unyielding. "My mother was about to speak to you about Whitaker Global's future. But before we discuss profits, I believe this board—and the press—deserves to know the truth about the legacy of this company."
"Ethan, stop this right now!" Richard Cartwright shouted, standing up from his table, his face purple with fury. "You're committing corporate suicide!"
"I'm committing an execution, Richard," I replied coldly.
With a click of a remote control in my hand, the massive forty-foot projection screens behind the stage lit up.
Document 1: The Certified 99.9997% DNA Paternity Results. Document 2: The $1.5 Million Wire Transfer from Cartwright Holdings to Dr. Arthur Sterling. Document 3: The Sworn Confession of Dr. Sterling, detailing the falsification of Mara Lin's medical records and forced exile.
The ballroom exploded into absolute chaos. Reporters jumped from their seats, flashes blinding the stage as camera shutters clicked at a frantic speed. Board members stood up, staring at the screens in utter horror and disbelief.
"Six years ago," I announced, my voice cutting through the noise like a broadsword, "my mother, Eleanor Whitaker, and Richard Cartwright engaged in criminal conspiracy, medical fraud, and extortion to tear my pregnant wife from my arms and hide my four biological sons from the world!"
"Lies! It's all lies!" Eleanor screamed, losing her aristocratic composure completely, clutching the podium as if she were drowning.
"The New York State Attorney General's office has already received these files," I continued, looking directly at Eleanor and the Cartwrights. "As majority shareholder of Whitaker Global, I have called an emergency board vote effective immediately. Eleanor Whitaker is removed as Chairwoman. The merger with Cartwright Holdings is permanently dissolved."
I stepped down from the stage, walking back to Mara and my four boys.
Milo looked up at me, his gray-blue eyes shining with pride. He reached out and grabbed my hand.
"Did you win, Daddy?" Milo asked softly.
I looked back at my mother, who was currently being surrounded by three federal agents stepping out from the side wings of the ballroom to serve arrest warrants.
May you like
I looked down at my son, then at Mara, whose green eyes were overflowing with tears of pure, unadulterated triumph.
"Yes, Milo," I whispered, pulling my family tight against my side. "We won."
