Chapter 6 - The Senator’s Last Stand

The defeat was absolute, public, and swift.
By 8:00 AM the following morning, while the snow still blanketed the quiet streets of Chicago, CNN and local news networks broke into regular programming with a stunning announcement: Senator Arthur Kensington was stepping down from office immediately, citing “unexpected medical complications and a desire to spend time with his family.”
In a high-rise penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan, Victoria Kensington threw her crystal wine glass against the television screen, watching her father read his forced resignation statement with tear-streaked eyes and shaking hands.
Her father sat at the dining table, staring blankly at a cup of cold coffee, broken by a single night of ruined ambition.
“He destroyed us, Dad,” Victoria whispered, her voice cracking with hysteria. “Leo destroyed everything we built. We can’t just let him get away with this!”

Arthur looked up, his eyes hollow, the arrogance that had sustained his family for generations completely drained away.
“We aren't going to do anything, Victoria,” Arthur said quietly. “Because if we try... Leo Rossi won't just ruin our bank accounts. He’ll bury us so deep they won't even find our bones when they dig the foundations for his next skyscraper.”
