Chapter 8 - A New Dynasty

Three months later, spring finally broke across the sprawling grounds of the Moretti estate.
The bitter chill of November had melted away, replaced by blooming cherry blossoms, emerald-green lawns, and the bright, warm sunshine of an April afternoon.
Inside San Rocco’s grand dining hall, the red leather chairs had been polished, the crystal chandeliers gleamed with renewed brilliance, and the heavy oak tables were no longer weighed down by dark contracts and hidden betrayals.
At the center table sat Dominic Moretti, reviewing architectural blueprints for a new children’s art foundation in Manhattan—one bearing Elena’s name, fully funded and operated under the direct protection of the Moretti family.
The double doors swung open with a cheerful creak.
Nine-year-old Clara walked in, no longer wearing an oversized gray sweater, but a bright yellow dress, carrying a brand-new professional artist’s sketchbook under her arm. Behind her walked Lydia, now the official Director of Estate Operations, moving with an air of quiet, unshakable dignity and grace.
"Mr. Moretti," Clara announced proudly, marching right up to his desk. "I finished the portrait of the garden."
Dominic laid down his fountain pen, smiled warmly, and held out his hand. "Let me see, Clara."
Clara handed him the sketchbook.
Inside was a vibrant, colorful watercolor painting of the San Rocco courtyard—the blooming flowers, the golden sunlight, and standing by the marble steps, two figures drawn with gentle, protective care.
Dominic stared at the drawing for a long, silent moment, a profound sense of peace settling deep within his chest.
"It's the best one yet, Clara," Dominic said softly, his voice full of genuine affection. "You captured the light perfectly."
Lydia smiled gently, stepping forward to place a fresh cup of coffee on his desk. "She spends hours in the east garden every day, sir. She says she’s making sure the flowers never get gray again."

Dominic looked up, meeting Lydia’s grateful eyes, and then glanced back down at the bright, living colors of Clara’s painting.
The monsters in silk gowns were gone. The secrets in the dark had been brought to light. And the fortress of San Rocco was finally, truly, a home.
