Chapter 8 - The Truth Exposed

Three weeks later.

The Grand Ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan was filled with five hundred of the most powerful people in the country—billionaires, politicians, foreign dignitaries, and the newly established leaders of the city's business elite.

The event was officially a charity gala for the Moretti Children’s Hospital Foundation, but everyone in the room knew the real reason for the gathering: Don Gabriel Moretti was holding his first public appearance since the annihilation of the Valenti syndicate.

Whispers echoed across the room as guests sipped champagne.

"I heard his wife was shot..."

"Is it true she was just a placeholder?"

"I heard she ran away..."

"Quiet! Here they come!"

The heavy mahogany double doors at the top of the grand marble staircase swung open.

The butler’s voice boomed across the silent ballroom: "Don Gabriel Moretti and his wife, Donna Mara Moretti."

A collective gasp swept through the crowd.

Gabriel stepped into the warm glow of the chandeliers, looking like an absolute king in a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo. But it was the woman on his arm who made every jaw in the room drop.

Mara was a vision of breathtaking, majestic beauty. She wore a custom-designed off-the-shoulder gown of rich burgundy silk that hugged her voluptuous curves with effortless elegance. Her dark auburn hair was styled in soft, cascading waves, crowned with a delicate diamond tiara that caught the light with every step. Her skin glowed, her hazel eyes were bright and fearless, and her head was held high with the undeniable grace of a true queen.

She was not hiding. She was not shrinking. She was radiant.

Gabriel walked down the stairs beside her, his arm wrapped possessively around her waist, his eyes sweeping over the crowd with cold authority.

They reached the center of the ballroom floor. Gabriel took a microphone from the podium, stepping into the spotlight with his wife beside him.

"Many of you in this room have heard rumors over the last three years," Gabriel’s deep, commanding voice filled the hall. "You heard that my marriage was a contract. You heard that my wife was easily overlooked."

The room went dead silent.

Gabriel turned to look directly into Mara’s eyes, his expression softening into an undeniable, deeply passionate devotion.

"Let me correct the record," Gabriel declared, his voice echoing with absolute pride. "Mara Rossi is the bravest, most brilliant, and most incredible woman I have ever known. She saved my life. She saved my mother’s life. She exposed the traitors in our midst and broke an empire of corruption."

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a velvet box. He opened it to reveal a magnificent ten-carat oval-cut diamond ring, flanked by two deep red rubies.

He took Mara’s left hand, gently sliding the breathtaking ring onto her finger, replacing the simple gold band from three years ago.

"You are not my fake wife, Mara," Gabriel whispered, his voice carrying over the microphone so every person in New York could hear. "You are my heart, my soul, and my absolute Queen. Forever."

Mara’s eyes filled with tears of pure, overwhelming joy. "Forever, Gabriel."

Gabriel pulled her close, dipping her back slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, sweeping kiss right in the middle of the ballroom floor.

The entire room erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and standing ovations!
