Chapter 6 - The Viral Video War

The next morning, the Peterson family tried to play dirty.

Driven by desperation, humiliation, and Megan’s delusional conviction that she was the true victim, they contacted a local Chicago tabloid journalist.

By 10:00 AM, an article dropped online with a dramatic headline:

LOCAL PHILANTHROPIST FAMILY EVICTED ON THANKSGIVING BY UNHINGED HEIRESS: SISTER-IN-LAW ASSAULTED IN OWN HOME.

The article featured a photo of Megan holding an ice pack over her cheek, tearfully claiming that I had suffered a "psychotic break" at the Thanksgiving table, attacked her without provocation, and used my vast legal connections to cast her elderly parents onto the cold streets.

Mark even posted a video on Facebook, looking disheveled and sorrowful.

"I just want my wife to come home and get the help she needs," Mark lied smoothly to the camera, playing the long-suffering, devoted husband. "Chloe has always struggled with anger issues. To strike my sister and then use her money to destroy our family on Thanksgiving... it breaks my heart. Please, Chloe, if you're watching this, stop the hurt. Let's get you help."

The post quickly gained traction. Comments flooded in from the Petersons' country club acquaintances, condemning me as a "spoiled monster" and a "gold-digging psycho."

My phone rang at 11:30 AM. It was Arthur.

"Have you seen the news?" he asked, sounding remarkably unbothered.

"I have," I said calmly, buttering a piece of toast for Lily while she watched cartoons on the penthouse TV. "Megan always was better at acting like a victim than running a business."

"Should I release the statement?" Arthur asked.

"No statement," I replied, a dark smile spreading across my lips. "Statements are for people who need to defend themselves. Release the media file from the Lincoln Park living room."

When I had agreed to fund the renovation of the Peterson brownstone three years ago, I had insisted on installing a state-of-the-art smart security system—including discrete, high-definition 4K ceiling cameras in the primary living areas, all linked directly to my private cloud server. The Petersons had long forgotten those little black domes nestled in the crown molding.

Five minutes later, Arthur uploaded the raw, unedited, high-definition video directly to every major social media platform, news outlet, and local Chicago news station.

The video was crystal clear.

It showed the warm, bright dining room. It showed Carol fussing over the food. It showed Lily politely saying, "Thank you, Grandma, but can I please not have the dark meat?"

Then, it captured Megan’s sudden, violent surge across the table.

The sharp, echoing sound of her hand cracking across a five-year-old’s small face filled the audio track with terrifying clarity. It showed Lily trembling, clutching her face, red fingers instantly burning into her skin.

It captured Megan’s vicious voice: "You ungrateful little brat! When adults are talking, you keep your mouth shut!"

It captured Mark’s cold, cowardly whisper: "Chloe, just let it go. It's Thanksgiving."

And finally, it captured my immediate, furious response—the two sharp slaps that put Megan in her place, followed by Mark grabbing my arm and demanding I apologize to his sister while my daughter sobbed in the background.

The internet did not just react. It exploded.

Within two hours, the video had thirty million views.

The headline on every major news outlet flipped instantaneously:
