Chapter 9 - The Forever After

One year later.
The summer sun was setting over Lake Como, Italy, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of violet, gold, and soft pink. The calm, crystal-clear waters of the lake reflected the historic grandeur of Villa Moretti—the private estate where Luca and I had once dreamed of building a family.
Tonight, the villa's expansive marble terrace was decorated with thousands of glowing fairy lights, white roses, and soft silk drapery.
Music played gently as a small, intimate group of fifty close friends and family members sat along the floral aisle.
At the front of the terrace, standing before an archway covered in white peonies, was Luca. He looked impeccably handsome in a bespoke black tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the doors leading out from the villa.
The double doors opened.
First came five-year-old Leo, looking sharp in a mini tuxedo, proudly carrying a velvet ring pillow. Right beside him was Maya, wearing a sweet white lace dress, happily tossing pink rose petals onto the aisle from her silver basket.
Then, I stepped out onto the terrace.
I wore an off-the-shoulder, ivory silk gown that flowed gracefully around my feet, holding a simple bouquet of peonies. My hair was styled in soft waves, and as I looked up, my eyes met Luca’s.
Tears welled in his dark eyes—the same dark eyes that had once looked at me with cold distance in our Chicago penthouse, but now shone with an infinite, unconditional love that warmed my very soul.
I walked down the aisle, my heart beating with pure, unadulterated peace.
When I reached him, Luca took both of my hands in his, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to my knuckles before stepping closer to whisper, "You take my breath away, Nia. Just like the first day I met you."
"You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Moretti," I teased softly, smiling through my tears.
The officiant stepped forward, speaking words of love, resilience, and second chances. When it came time for our vows, Luca reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a handwritten letter.
"Nia," Luca spoke, his voice trembling with deep emotion that captivated everyone present. "Six years ago, I thought my life was defined by the empire I built, the titles I held, and the power I accumulated. I was blind to the true treasure standing right in front of me. I broke your heart, and in doing so, I broke my own."
He looked at Leo and Maya, who were sitting happily on the front bench, watching us with big, bright eyes.
"You gave me the greatest gifts of my life in our children," Luca continued, turning back to me. "And you gave me something even greater: a chance to become the man, the husband, and the father I was always meant to be. I promise to cherish you, to honor you, to protect our family, and to love you with every beat of my heart for the rest of my days. You are my home, Nia. You always have been."
"Luca," I spoke my vows, looking into the deep brown eyes I had loved for over a decade. "We went through the darkest storm, but it led us back to where we belong. I forgive you for the past, I love you for who you are today, and I choose you for all of my tomorrows."
Luca didn't even wait for the officiant to finish saying, "You may now kiss the bride."
He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me tightly against his chest, and lifted me slightly off my feet as he pressed his lips to mine in a passionate, eternal kiss that sealed our promise forever.
The guests erupted into joyful applause and cheers. Leo and Maya ran up the aisle, throwing rose petals into the air and wrapping their arms around our legs.
Luca broke the kiss, laughing softly as he scooped up Maya in one arm and Leo in the other, keeping his arm firmly wrapped around my waist as we turned to face our family and friends.
