Chapter 6 - The Unraveling of the Golden Boy

The color drained instantly from my father's face. "What... what are you talking about?"

"Jason’s firm didn't promote him," I said, stepping closer to my father. "He was placed on administrative leave three months ago for mismanaging client funds. He took out massive private loans to maintain his lifestyle, using his expected equity as collateral. And when the lenders came collecting, he tried to hack into my business portal to see if he could leverage my assets."

Mom looked between me and Dad, her eyes wide with terror. "No... no, that's impossible! Jason is a Senior Partner! He just bought a new Mercedes!"

"With money he doesn't have," Emily added softly. "Amanda called us this morning, Mrs. Miller. She packed her bags and left him today. She found the foreclosure notices hidden in his home office desk."

Dad staggered back a step, catching himself on the porch railing. The indestructible pedestal he had spent thirty years building for his eldest son crumbled into dust right before his eyes.

"Why didn't he tell us?" Dad whispered, his voice broken. "Why wouldn't he ask for help?"

"Because you taught him that his worth in this family was tied to being better than me," I said, looking my father directly in the eye. "You built a home where love was conditional and status was everything. He was terrified to show you he was failing, so he projected all his insecurity onto me."

Mom collapsed into one of the porch armchairs, weeping loudly into her hands. "We ruined everything... we ruined our family..."

"You ruined your relationship with me," I corrected her softly. "And right now, Jason needs help—not your praise, not your enabling, but real help. But you are not going to use me as his sacrificial lamb anymore."

"Brian," Dad said, his eyes glassy with tears. He looked smaller now, stripped of the stern, authoritative posture he had maintained my whole life. "What do we do?"

"You go home," I said. "You deal with Jason. You tell him to come clean to the authorities and his lenders before my legal team files formal criminal charges against him for attempted corporate espionage."

"You would put your own brother in prison?" Dad gasped.

"If he forces my hand, yes," I replied without hesitation. "My priority is protecting my wife, my son, and the business I built with my own hands. Family isn't a free pass to destroy my life."
