Chapter 6 - The Final Trial

Six months after that terrible afternoon, the final court proceedings commenced.
Ryan Vance was facing federal indictment for fraud, forgery, and grand larceny. Facing severe prison time, his defense collapsed, and he entered a guilty plea, agreeing to return all stolen assets and pay full restitution to my business.
Sarah’s criminal trial for child endangerment and corporate complicity took place shortly after. Sitting in the courtroom, she looked diminished, stripped of the luxury and arrogance she had displayed months earlier.
When she took the stand to beg for joint custody, David presented the final psychological evaluation reports, the financial audit, and the law enforcement findings.
The judge did not mince words when delivering the verdict.
"Mrs. Reynolds, you abandoned your vulnerable children in pursuit of an illicit scheme, showed no remorse until your co-conspirator turned on you, and attempted to weaponize the legal system against a devoted parent," the judge declared. "Full permanent legal and physical custody of Tessa and Miles Reynolds is awarded exclusively to Grant Reynolds."

Sarah was sentenced to probation, community service, and ordered to complete mandatory parenting and financial rehabilitation courses before any future supervised visitation could even be considered.
As she was led out of the courtroom, she looked back at me, tears streaming down her face. But there was no anger left in me—only a deep, quiet relief that my children were finally safe forever.
