Chapter 4 - The Hidden Vault and the Truth

With a sharp click, Marcus inserted a master override key into the brass keyhole exposed beneath the canvas patch.
The heavy gold-leaf frame swung outward on hidden hydraulic hinges like a bank vault door, revealing a recessed wall safe built directly into the reinforced stone of the manor.
Gasps rippled through the small group. Even Maria looked on in wide-eyed astonishment.
Adrian stepped forward and spun the digital dial, entering a six-digit code known only to the head of the Cole family—his mother’s birthday, followed by the year he was born.
Biss. The heavy steel door popped open.
Inside the small, illuminated compartment sat a collection of items that made Vanessa’s knees buckle entirely. There were no bearer bonds inside the safe anymore—those had already been taken. But left behind were items even more damning:
A forged passport under the name Victoria Vance, complete with Swiss residency stamps.
A flash drive labeled Cole Syndicate Master Decryption Keys.
A bank statement from a Cayman Islands account showing a recent wire transfer of five million dollars from an account registered under Apex Global Holdings—a front company belonging to Adrian’s primary syndicate rival, Victor Sterling.
Adrian pulled out the bank statement, his eyes scanning the numbers. The paper felt cold in his hands.
"Victor Sterling," Adrian muttered, the name tasting like ash in his mouth. "You were working with Sterling all along."
Vanessa collapsed onto a velvet bench, her hands covering her face as she shook uncontrollably. The game was up. The façade had shattered beyond repair.
"He promised me freedom, Adrian," she whispered hoarsely, her voice broken. "You treat everyone like pawns on a chessboard. You don't love anyone—you only love your power, your empire, your bloody legacy!"
"And you thought you could steal my empire and walk away?" Adrian’s voice was a low, lethal purr. He turned to Marcus. "Call the private jet. Prepare a holding cell at the shipping docks in sector four. Miss Hale is taking an extended, permanent vacation."
"No! Adrian, you can't do this! People will ask questions! My family—"
"Your family sold you out to Sterling for two million upfront," Marcus cut in coldly, sliding his phone back into his pocket. "We intercepted their offshore comms ten minutes ago, boss. They're already on a yacht heading for international waters. They left her behind to take the fall."
Vanessa froze. Color drained completely from her face. She looked at the man she had tried to betray—the man who was now staring at her with absolute, chilling detachment.

"Take her out of my sight," Adrian ordered.
Two armed security guards stepped forward, hoisting Vanessa to her feet by her arms. She didn't fight back anymore. As they dragged her out of the gallery, her hollow eyes lingered for a fraction of a second on little Lily, who buried her face deeper into her mother’s neck.
